The Challenge
Many of the communities served by Grassroot faced significant barriers to communication and organisation, including limited internet access, low smartphone penetration, and financial constraints that made traditional digital platforms inaccessible. The organisation required a solution that would enable community members to organise around local issues, mobilise participation, communicate effectively, coordinate collective action, and engage local government authorities when intervention was required — accessible to all members regardless of device type or access to mobile data.
The Solution
Anylytical Technologies designed and developed a Community Mobilisation Platform built on USSD technology, providing an inclusive and cost-effective communication channel that could be accessed from virtually any mobile phone. The platform enabled community groups to create and manage local initiatives, mobilise residents around specific issues, coordinate meetings and events, communicate through mobile messaging, and maintain ongoing engagement within communities, removing many of the barriers associated with smartphone applications and internet-based services.
